Smoked Yogurt Meat Recipe: A Traditional Delight from the Pakistan

Smoked Yogurt Meat is a versatile recipe that can be enjoyed on a variety of occasions. It is a popular dish in the Pakistan, and is often served at special events such as:

  • weddings,
  • family gatherings, and
  • religious festivals.

However, it can also be cooked for a cozy family dinner or as a special treat for friends. The smoky aroma and delicious flavors of this dish make it a great option for any occasion.

Here is the recipe for this delicious and flavorful dish:

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg meat (mutton or beef)
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Coal, for smoking

Preparation Time:

30 minutes Cooking Time: 2-3 hours Serving: 4-6

Instructions:

  • Cut the meat into medium-sized pieces and wash thoroughly.
  • In a large pot, heat the oil and fry the onions until they turn golden brown.
  • Add the meat and fry until the color changes.
  • Add ginger and garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add yogurt and mix well. Cover and let it cook on low heat for 2-3 hours or until the meat is tender.
  • Once the meat is cooked, remove from heat and set aside.
  • Heat a small piece of coal until it’s red hot. Place it in a small bowl in the center of the meat and drizzle some oil over it. Cover the pot with a lid and let it smoke for 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove the coal bowl and discard it.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and chopped green chilies.
  • Serve hot with naan or rice.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Use meat with bones for more flavor.
  • Make sure to fry the onions until they turn golden brown for a richer taste.
  • If you want a thicker gravy, you can reduce the amount of yogurt used.
  • To add more heat, you can increase the amount of red chili powder or add some cayenne pepper.
  • You can also add some garam masala powder for a more traditional flavor.

Dhooan Dahi Gosht is a traditional meat dish that originated in the Pakistan, particularly in the northwestern region of Pakistan.

The dish is known for its unique smoky flavor, which is achieved by placing a hot piece of coal in the center of the pot and covering it to let it smoke. The dish is typically served with naan or rice and is a favorite among meat lovers in the region.
